Up until today retirees in Ireland who left their jobs at the traditional retirement age of 65 were forced to sign on to the Live Register and claim the dole until their State pension kicked in on their 66th birthday.

Important points:

  1. The benefit only applies to people aged between 65 and 66 years of age;
  2. The benefit is €203 a week and there could be an increase for independents;
  3. The benefit will be €45 a week less than the pension;
  4. You are entitled to this benefit whether you retire voluntarily or not;
  5. The application process is done online through MyWelfare.ie or by emailing [email protected] and requesting a paper application which will be posted to the person.;
  6. Eligibility for the benefit is based on your PRSI contributions.

We hope this is of benefit to you. If you would like any further information on retirement please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01 8774608 or [email protected].
